An Ugly Mistake Turned Elegant!

The other day, while I was feeding Addison, I heard a loud crash followed by a "Whoops!". That's never a good sign. I went to investigate only to discover that my husband had accidentally knocked my Ponytail Palm off the balcony rail (how, I have no clue) and down the stairs where it had ended in a disaster. The pretty pot was in a million pieces but somehow the plant had stayed intact in it's container. Now I was a little worried about the damage to the plant because we've had it since we were first married and I have grown quite fond of it but everything looked great still so I put it back in it's place without the pretty pot. However, it wasn't a pretty sight. In fact, it looked rather ugly.So I searched around for a pot that was similar in size. No such luck. I sat down disappointed when all of a sudden I remembered this gorgeous hobnail milk glass vase I had found at the thrift store over the weekend for a buck! Light bulb moment!
Ta-da! It works perfectly and I LOVE the finished look. I like it even better than the original pot. I think the height really adds a lot. Now one thing I wasn't a fan of was the fact that the vase kind of blended in with the rail and the wall behind it so I am currently playing around with a fun little runner to put on the banister. I've been wanting to do this for awhile and am just now finding an excuse to do it! :)

Stay tuned for that.

Being a Stay-At-Home-Mom

A year ago this week was the last time I taught in my own classroom. I loved my job and was absolutely devastated when I lost it.Nick and I had always hoped I could stay home and raise our children but we didn't think it would happen. First of all, the financial part of it was extremely scary. One salary? YIKES. I also loved my job and could never imagine quitting. It's a good thing God has His own plans! After learning that my 2nd grade teaching position was being cut, I went back to Iowa last May to look for other jobs (with the hopes that we would be moving there). I applied and even went in for an informal interview. However, the day after arriving back in Colorado we discovered that we were going to be having a baby. God's handiwork? I think YES.We were on our way home from our very first ultrasound when I got called back to Iowa to interview for a 3rd grade position. Part of me was thrilled about it and yet another part of me was so very disappointed. This part of me was very unexpected. It was what I wanted, RIGHT?After many hours of discussing the future, my husband and I decided it was best for me to stay home. We did some number crunching and realized we could swing it financially. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made, yet it was also one of the most difficult.
I LOVE being a stay-at-home-mom and I wouldn't change it for the world. I enjoy being able to play with my daughter all day long. I like the fact that when my husband gets stuck at home because of something like weather, I get to spend the day with him. I even enjoy being able to do housework during the day! Of course being a stay-at-home-mom is not always easy. I'm constantly busy and sometimes feel like a chicken with my head cut off but the good definitely outweighs the bad! Do I miss teaching? Of course. But watching my daughter grow up is much more rewarding.
I know there are so many working mothers who would much rather be at home with their children and yet they are not able to be. I was talking with a friend this morning after church and she shared her desires to be able to stay home with her daughter. It made me realize just how much I tend to take it for granted. My husband has been absolutely wonderful throughout this whole situation. He works his tail off so that I can stay home with our baby. I love him so much for that and I really do need to give him more credit.
For those of you who are working mothers. You are amazing. I honestly don't know how you do it. If that's what you love, good for you! If you long to be at home with your kids, I pray that somehow, someday, you can make it work. Either way, I know we have to do what's best for our children no matter what that may look like. I'm just thankful that this is what is currently best for us. I hope it doesn't change anytime soon but, if it does, I will do what the Lord asks of me. :)

My Dad = My Hero

My dad is my hero. He always has been and he always will. There are so many aspects of my father that I love. I know it isn't Father's Day yet but I just couldn't wait to brag on him a little! :)

He's such a loving and supportive father.
He is one awesome grandfather!
He loves my mother very much and still thinks she's gorgeous! :)

He's a hardworking business owner who is appreciated by many people in our community. Stop by his company website to see just much he's accomplished!
He's a very talented hunter! (Please no negative comments about this.)
He loves to fish and has taught me to love it as well. (My mom caught this fish and he was one proud husband!)
He knows how to have a lot of fun...
and be just plain goofy!
I love him so much and am so proud to be able to call him dad!
I could go on and on forever but that would be silly so I will just leave it at that! I am so thankful that the Lord blessed me with such an amazing father. I know not everyone is as fortunate as me and that truly breaks my heart. It's comforting to know that we have a wonderful Father in Heaven! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope I didn't scare you all off with my extremely cheesy post! I was just brimming with love for my daddy today (thanks to a picture my mom posted of him) and I wanted to share it with all of you!

Friday Finds 5/20/11 (And my blurb on Pinterest)

Pinterest has saved my life! Ok, not really but it has definitely helped me get somewhat more organized. Let me explain.

Before Pinterest I would have a bajillion tabs left open so that I could remember all of the items that I had found while blog searching and wanted to remember. It was a mess. I then tried saving the pictures to my desktop along with the website. That just took way too long. Then I was introduced to Pinterest by my friend Megan (thanks girl)! I'm sure everyone's heard of this site but if you haven't, you NEED to check it out, start your own board, and then share your board with ME! :)

Here is a tutorial that you can watch if you are unfamiliar with the site. It's a good one!

Anyway, I now post all of my favorite finds onto my personal Pinterest Board. Feel free to stop by so you can see ALL of them! :)

Here are some of my favorites from this week!

Speaking of Easter...

I've been meaning to share this with you for quite a while now! Sorry it's so late. Anyway, I made this adorable hat for Addison shortly before we left for Iowa and I love how it turned out! I followed this tutorial from "girl.Inspired." It was so simple and easy to make. I LOVED my cute little Easter bunny!

Our Easter Recap

Addison and I were in Iowa visiting family over Easter. Nick wasn't able to come out with us because of his work schedule. We definitely missed him but it was great to spend some quality time with both of our families, especially since they don't get to see Addie very much!
I kind of failed as a mom Easter morning because I completely forgot to take pictures! It's a good thing my mom was prepared and took a few for me! :) Thanks mom!Addison looked super cute in her Easter dress! I love dressing her up and I have a feeling that if she's anything like her mommy, she won't let me do it once she's older!
I didn't wear anything fancy for Easter morning. I haven't gone shopping since I've had a baby and let's just say that my old clothes don't quite fit me the same anymore. :( I am in desperate need of some cute summer clothes!
Spending Easter with Nana and Papa was amazing! I hadn't had a chance to celebrate Easter with them for 5 years! It was fun for them to be able to give Addie her Easter basket in person instead of mailing it.
We had such a great day. What a blessing it was to be able to hold my miracle baby on the day that Christ was resurrected!
