Addison's New Skirt!

Yes, that is my baby's butt. I find it to be pretty darn cute! :) However, this post isn't really about her butt, it's about the new skirt I made for her! It had been awhile since I'd sewn an article of clothing so I felt a little rusty about it. I also didn't have any patterns right off hand and I decided I wanted to try to create my own pattern. I had seen this adorable pinafore over on Smashed Peas and Carrots (which I have plans to make soon) and wanted to create a similar look for this skirt. I then proceeded to draw and create the skirt pattern! Definitely a first for me but I really love how it turned out! :)
Here are a few details about this skirt. First of all, I made it using fabric from a fat quarter bundle that I had bought awhile back. I was thrilled that I could use what I had and that it wouldn't require a whole lot of fabric! I definitely had to work to make it fit though! :)

The lace was something I thought to add after the skirt was already finished so I had to hand stitch it on but I think it just adds so much to the finished look!
The back is by far my favorite part of the skirt. I just love that it shows off her cute little behind. I hope to make a fun little diaper cover for it soon. I was planning on making a white one with ruffles or lace on the butt but I didn't have any white fabric laying around so I pulled out a white diaper cover that I already had. It works for now!

I think the ruffle really makes the dress so much cuter. It adds that little flair at the bottom that you wouldn't get with a regular hem.
I also decided to line the skirt just because I feel it looks more professionally done, especially since I knew you would be able to see the underside a lot since this is Addison's new favorite way to lay! :)
By the way, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a good picture of a skirt on a wiggly baby. Just so you know! :)
After taking hundreds of pictures, I did manage to get a few o.k. shots. I think the fact that she's half naked makes the pictures all the better!
We're still working on how to be lady-like! It's taking some time but eventually she may get the idea! :)
Isn't the back just way too cute? My husband LOVES this skirt on her. He loves being able to see her cute chubby legs from the back. I happen to love it too!
I will definitely be holding onto this pattern for the future. If I could redo this skirt I would probably add some sort of closure besides the elastic so that she would have more room to grow. Overall though, I am very pleased with it!

If you are interested in the pattern and tutorial on how I made this skirt, just let me know and I can work on getting one ready!

Thanks so much for hanging out with us today!

  2. The problem with having such a cute baby - is that it does rather detract from the lovely skirt! Very jealous of your skills. I'm a new follower by the way :) Anna x
